MILITARY - OVERVIEW
The
following are educational assistance programs available to military personnel
and their families:
Military
Tuition Assistance (TA) Program
The Tuition
Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty
education programs in support of a Soldier's professional and personal
self-development goals. TA is available for courses that are offered in the
classroom or by distance learning. The courses must be offered by colleges that
are registered in GoArmyEd and are accredited by accrediting agencies that are
recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
The
Department of Defense (DoD) has directed a uniform TA fiscal policy across the
military services. Per semester hour cap is $250 and the fiscal year ceiling is
$4,500. The Army will pay 100 percent of the tuition and authorized fees
charged by a college up to the established per semester hour cap and fiscal
year ceiling.

Military
Spouse Career Advancement (MyCAA)
The Military Spouse Career Advancement Accounts
(MyCAA) program provides up to $6,000 (over 2 years) of Financial Assistance
for military spouses who are pursuing degree programs, licenses or credentials
leading to employment in portable career fields.
Spouses of Active Duty service members of the
Department of Defense and activated members of the National Guard and Reserve Components
(on Title 10 orders) are eligible.

The Post-9/11 GI-Bill
The Post-9/11 GI Bill provides
financial support for education and housing to individuals with at least 90
days of aggregate service on or after September 11, 2001, or individuals
discharged with a service-connected disability after 30 days. You must have
received an honorable discharge to be eligible for the Post-9/11 GI Bill.
Approved training under the Post-9/11 GI
Bill includes graduate and undergraduate degrees, and vocational/technical
training. Additionally, tutorial assistance, and licensing and certification
test reimbursement are approved under the Post- 9/11 GI Bill.

Reserve
Education Assistance Program (REAP)
REAP was established as a part of the Ronald W. Reagan National Defense Authorization
Act for Fiscal Year 2005. It is a Department of Defense education benefit
program designed to provide educational assistance to members of the Reserve
components called or ordered to active duty in response to a war or national
emergency (contingency operation) as declared by the President or Congress.
This program makes certain reservists who were activated for at least 90 days
after September 11, 2001 either eligible for education benefits or eligible for
increased benefits.

Veterans
Educational Assistance Program (VEAP)
VEAP is available
if you elected to make contributions from your military pay to participate in
this education benefit program. Your contributions are matched on a $2 for $1
basis by the Government. You may use these benefits for degree, certificate,
correspondence, apprenticeship/on-the-job training programs, and vocational
flight training programs. In certain circumstances, remedial, deficiency, and
refresher training may also be available.

Marine Gunnery Sergeant John David Fry Scholarship
Public Law 111-32, the Marine Gunnery Sergeant John
David Fry Scholarship, amends the Post-9/11 GI Bill (chapter 33) to include the
children of service members who die in the line of duty after Sept. 10, 2001. The benefit is effective August 1, 2009; the same day the Post-9/11 GI Bill takes effect.
Eligible children attending school may receive up to the highest public,
in-state undergraduate tuition and fees, plus a monthly living stipend and book
allowance under this program.
